Personal papers extending back to Plimsoll's schooldays, documenting his social and cultural activities and, to a limited degree, his official activities as a diplomat and governor. They include letters, personal documents, diaries, financial papers, Christmas cards, photographs, invitations, menus, art catalogues, theatre, opera and concert programs, newspaper cuttings and publications. Of special note is the long series of diaries dating from 1947-1987. Among the correspondents are Lord Casey, Sir John Kerr, Richard Krygier, Sir Walter Crocker, Sir William Heseltine, E.G. Whitlam, Peter Henderson, Ruth Dobson, Sir Guy Green, Prof. Alec Lazenby, Davis McCaughey, James Mollison, Sir Ninian Stephen and Prof. Gordon Reid.
